"Vicryl Plus suture by Ethicon. Antibacterial - absorbable - synthetic - braided.
Vicryl Plus is equivalent to your normal Vicryl absorbable suture with the addition of a coating that enables antibacterial protection (by triclosan).
The handling and performance is identical to Vicryl. As with Vicryl, flaking is prevented by a coating that is unique for the Vicryl sutures. This also ensures a smooth tissue passage.
Vicryl is a copolymer made from glycolide and lactide. It is absorbed through hydrolysis.
WHO include triclosan coated sutures in the WHO Global Guidelines for the prevention of Surgical Site Infections.
